Active Pass Arts Festival 2017

Active Pass Nature & Arts Festival 2017

In April of each year, on the western entrance to the Salish Sea, it is a time of gathering and anticipation. On the marine side, multiple species of birds and marine mammals are preparing for their coming migrations to breeding grounds while on the land side, the spring displays of diverse wildflower species are in full swing. The spirit and energy of this time of year is palpable and the communities of Mayne and Galiano islands invite you to a celebration. The inaugural Active Pass Nature and Arts Festival took place on Galiano Island and this year the focus returns to Mayne between April 21st & 23rd, 2017. With its mission statement “To promote and celebrate the natural beauty and wildlife of the Active Pass Region of the Salish Sea, the unique communities within it and the art it inspires.”, the festival is designed to showcase these significant natural values, coupled with the rich history and creativity of the adjacent island communities.

An Invitiation!

The third annual Festival Active Pass 2017 will be held on Mayne Island and planning is well underway. There will be something for everyone – from free events to special excursions that will take festival goers to memorable places in the Southern Gulf Islands. Oh, and by the way, if you attended the 2015 and 2016 festivals you know to expect wonderful entertainment, great local food, inspiring visual arts, spoken word and music all within this internationally recognized natural area. We are ready to welcome you April 21 to 23, 2017. Tell your friends and plan to register early for our renowned Festival Feast.

The Festival continues to draw on the strengths of the island communities to make it one event in 2017 that you won’t want to miss. This is a ‘must do” event for naturalists, birders, photographers, visual artists and arts enthusiasts, historians, families and children. The Festival organizing team is working on a great array of activities and events, including:

  • Local multi-media artists and their inspirational works
  • Big Weekend Bird Count Challenge
  • boat and land-based nature explorations of the region
  • spoken word presentations of local authors
  • island food and music
  • natural history and science of the region

All of which are inspired by the natural beauty of the area and the welcoming residents of the islands.
