The Conservancy will usually staff a single table dispensing free conservation information and a small number of resale items including maps of Mayne Island, the "Gulf of Georgia" and The Salish Sea, as well as such pamphlets as Michael Dunn's Bird Checklist and the Habitat Acquisition Trust's "Gardening with Native Plants." More information about some of these can be found on our Publications page.
We also are offering stainless steel water bottles with a "free" MICS imprint and well started Garry Oak seedlings (thanks Barbara!) as fundraisers.
During the core summer weekends we will also have a table every week with a display and information on the Mayne Island Shoreline Care Programs and on the Henderson Community Park Restoration project. Miriam, Leanna, Chris or Zoe will be available to talk about these projects and provide some interactive elements such as viewing sand lance eggs under a microscope. In mid-June we will begin a community mapping exercise, by asking residents and visitors where they have seen bull kelp and eelgrass.
On Saturday July 3rd market Michael Dunn will be at the MICS table to answer your bird identification questions and talk birding with local and visiting enthusiasts.
The Shoreline Project table is hosting "Paint This!" - Mayne Island kids will be painting fish for a future marine display.
