Mayne Island Stewardship Pledge

  I/We pledge to do the following (check all that apply): 

  ___ Protect and nurture native ecosystems and native plants like Garry oak, fawn lilies, and camas, etc.

  ___ Remove invasive species such as Scotch broom, daphne, gorse, and English ivy, etc.

  ___ Conserve water by practicing efficient irrigation, using drought tolerant plants, and/or collecting rainwater.

  ___ Allow logs, branches, and leaves to decay where they fall to form soil-building mulch, retain moisture, and provide habitat for wildlife

  ___ Be sensitive to excessive fire load on our property

  ___ Compost suitable food waste and garden clippings

  ___ Eliminate the use of chemical and synthetic fertilizers or pesticides

  ___ Dispose of oil and other toxic substances properly

  ___ Talk with neighbours, friends, and other community members about the need to protect endangered species and natural habitats

 

  The Mayne Island Conservancy Society (MICS) agrees to assist the landholder(s) by providing information on naturescaping, plant and animal   identification, organic land practices, and ecological stewardship issues.

 

  *This stewardship pledge is for one year until ________________, at which time MICS will contact the landholder(s) about renewing for another year.
