How we Further the "Mission"

Here are some of the many ways in which the Mayne Island Conservancy Society advances its mission to foster harmony between nature and community on Mayne Island B.C.

Habitat Restoration

at Henderson Hill Park and Bennett Bay Park
  • Broom & Spurge Daphne removal, propagation & replanting of native species
  • Baseline studies and on-going monitoring

Guided Walks

on public lands & on private property at landowner’s request
  • Flora & fauna identification and information on sensitive ecosystems
  • Preservation and restoration advice

Shoreline Care

at many local beaches
  • Baseline studies & mapping of eelgrass & kelp beds and annual monitoring
  • Search for Sand Lance eggs on some beaches

Active Pass Important Bird Area

an internationally designated IBA
  • Monitoring resident & migrating seabirds, bird identification - semi-annual workshops
  • Annual reports

May Day Parade & Celebration

  • Morris dancing & music at the end of the first Farmers Market of the year
